Press Release posted on the Excite website announcing Chrysler's decision to split the Dodge brand into two groups. All right gang. What does this really mean? How much longer before the Ram brand is offered for sale much like the Viper brand was (is) for sale?Oct 5, 10:51 AM (ET) By TOM KRISHER DETROIT (AP) - Chrysler's new Italian management has once again shaken up the automaker's executive team, announcing the departure of two recently appointed brand CEOs and splitting the Dodge brand into two groups, one focusing on trucks and the other on cars. The moves, announced Monday, marked the second management shake-up since Fiat Group SpA CEO Sergio Marchionne took control of Chrysler on June 10 when it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Peter Fong, president and CEO of the Chrysler brand and the company's top sales executive, and Michael Accavitti, president and CEO of the Dodge brand, abruptly left the company, Fong for personal reasons and Accavitti to pursue other interests, Chrysler said in a statement. Sales of Chrysler Group LLC vehicles, which consist of the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep brands, are down 39 percent for the first nine months of the year. Chrysler also was caught unprepared for the government's Cash for Clunkers program and had too few small vehicles on dealer lots to benefit much from the rebates. Chrysler sales spokesman Gualberto Ranieri would not comment when asked if the departures were related to Chrysler's sales performance. Chrysler said that it would split the Dodge brand into truck and car groups. The truck group will be led by Fred Diaz Jr., who previously ran the company's Denver business center. The Ram brand consists of the company's new Ram pickup trucks, as well as its commercial vehicles. Diaz also will take over as lead sales executive in the U.S. for the Chrysler Group organization. Vice President of Design Ralph Gilles will take over leadership of the Dodge car brand, which includes minivans, in addition to his current design responsibilities, the company said. The two men replace Accavitti, who resigned to pursue other interests, Chrysler said. Accavitti was appointed to head Dodge by Marchionne in June when Chrysler emerged from Chapter 11. "This reorganization will allow us to protect and develop the unique nature of the product offerings within the Dodge brand," Marchionne said in a statement. The company also said Fong resigned for personal reasons, and he was replaced by an executive from Fiat, Oliver Francois, as Chrysler brand president and CEO. Francois served as head of the Lancia brand, Chrysler said in a statement. Michael Manley remains as president and CEO of the Jeep division.

Think you can write a good tech piece on a performance product? Get rewarded for your work! In Issue 63 (page 123) you read an introduction of a new intake manifold from the folks at Wilson Manifolds. We'll save you some time and reprint the text from Issue 63 here:Wilson, a leading name in performance and racing induction systems, has expanded its product line with a new intake system for 5.9-liter HPCR Cummins engines from '03 - '07.In contrast with the OEM arrangement, this new induction system provides greater equality of air distribution, especially in the cruise zone of 2,000 to 2,100 rpm. As a result, the Thrasher generates gains in both torque and fuel economy, but also improves horsepower output, lowers exhaust temperatures, reduces exhaust emissions, and improves driveability. The WIlson Thrasher Kit contains a cast alloy elbow, billet baseplate, stainless/Vitron rubber gasket, and all necessary fasteners. Installation takes about two hours.Wilson Manifolds4700 NE 11th AvenueFort Lauderdale, FL 33334(954) 771-6216 phone(954) 771-3413 faxwww.wilsonmanifolds.com* * *A give-away is a great way to generate some buzz in the marketplace. The folks at Wilson agreed. So we are pleased to offer one of their $490 - '03 - '07 manifolds as the prize. So how does the Wilson Intake Manifold contest work?- Send us a photo of you and a Wilson Sporting Goods item? Oops, wrong Wilson.- Send us a photo of a night out when you had too much intake? Nope, this is a family-friendly website.- Send us a photo of your manifold? Too boring. How about about a contest where you become a TDR field correspondent? If you win this contest, you agree to submit your product evaluation of the Wilson Intake Manifold to the Turbo Diesel Register for publication. Although the contest is open to anyone, you will need access to a '03 - '07 5.9-liter truck. Your evaluation should include mileage and horsepower tests from a dyno (if at all possible). To enter, simply follow this link and post a sentence or two on about why you should be selected as our evaluator. We're not looking for the best writing. We're looking for enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the product. Now get your pencils (oops, keyboards) out and enter now!* * Post your entry no later than April 30, 2009.* * Winner will be announced on May 1, 2009.

Kore Power Wagon Wins Primm 300

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – The “Primm 300” is the roughest, most brutal race in the SCORE series. Hundreds of miles of rocks, sand and cross-grain pit drivers not only against each other, but against the terrain. Angered by a 3rd place finish at “Vegas to Reno” only two weeks prior, Team KORE worked non-stop, completely rebuilding the Power Wagon in record time.

“Primm is gnarly,” said Team Manager, John Zambie, “In the short time allotted, we did everything we could to get the truck ready. Didn’t sleep much – finished prep the morning of the race - but we got it done.”

A 6am start from the back of the pack forced driver Kent Kroeker to fight tremendous dust while driving into the rising sun.

“A rear start is a huge disadvantage at Primm. The visibility was so bad we had to take a lot of chances to get past everyone. When we finally got behind Griffin, I hit him hard. Then it was a game-on for the rest of the race.”

An all-out death battle ensued between John Griffin’s Ford and Kroeker’s Dodge. Swapping leads numerous times throughout the race caused a lot of nail biting in the pits. Both teams had to stop to refuel and each time the lead changed. For the entire second lap, both trucks remained within seconds of each other, going all out for the win.

With only 20 miles to go, Kroeker was in the lead. Then the motor stalled and Griffin got by, forcing Kroeker to drive inside his dust, all the way to the finish.

“They started 30 seconds in front of us, so I knew I could finish behind him and still win on corrected time,” said Kroeker, “His dust was so bad, a lot of the time, I couldn’t see anything. I had to flog our truck as hard as I could to stay with him and rely on my co-driver to navigate from the GPS.”

With zero visibility, two miles from the finish, Kroeker hit a rock, exploding the right rear tire.

“There was no time to change it – no time to even think of that. I just kept it pinned and hoped most of it would stay on the wheel.”

The crowd cheered as Kent Kroeker and co-driver Frank Martinek powered down the final mile with a mangled bumper, crumpled bedsides and a shredded tire, flapping on the wheel.

When they reached the checkered flag, KORE had the win by 16 seconds.

Scheid Diesel Motorsports' diesel dragster breaks another record. The fastest diesel dragster continues to be at the top. The car ran at Alabama International Dragway on May 18, 2008 with a time of 6.93 and a speed of 193 mph. The car, driven by Bo Layne, is now the first and only diesel powered vehicle in the 6's. Scheid Diesel has designed the engine for the Spitzer built chassis, to achieve 200 mph in the quarter mile. This 300 inch rear engine dragster is powered by a Cummins 5.9L B-series diesel engine. The engine and drive train has been custom designed by Scheid Diesel. They are very close to exceeding the 200 mph barrier. See their Dragster on display at the DHRA Diesel Nationals in the Scheid Diesel booth.
