May Madness 2010 (April 26 - May 1, 2010) - Pahrump, NV

The Sixteenth Annual Turbo Diesel Register (TDR) Western Regional Rally, “May Madness,” [MM ’10] will be held April 26 - May 1, 2010 in Pahrump, Nevada. All brands of diesel trucks will be welcome. Most events will be held at Saitta-Trudeau Dodge, at the nearby Pahrump Nugget (the host hotel), and at Preferred RV (the host RV Park). The rally will again include the vendors’ “Hall of Gottahavits,” technical talks, safety and recreational vehicle related seminars, and drag racing. There will be a Best Dressed, Show-n-Shine truck contest, and a Ram Rodeo with a Ram roundup for all attendees. At the awards banquet on Saturday evening, we expect to give away over $5,000 in prizes in random-drawings. Attendees should plan and conduct your own "tours" of Pahrump and Vegas Valley attractions. Brochures will be available when you register. Among the notable places to visit are the Pahrump winery, the China Ranch date farm, and Death Valley. Some of these tours will require admission fees to be paid by the participants and each participant will pay for individual activities such as the entrance fee at the Speedway, fees for museums, etc. That way you pay only for what you want to attend. The Pahrump Nugget (866-751-6500; www.pahrumpnugget.com) is the host hotel and is recently re-modeled. It is conveniently located in the center of Pahrump and close to Saitta-Trudeau Dodge. The banquet, Vendors’ Hall of Gottahavits, and Vendors’ Friday-Saturday Seminar series will be held at the Nugget. Hotel rate will be $70 ($80 weekend). The host RV Park is Preferred RV Resort (800-445-7840; www.preferredrv.com). This RV Park is across the side street from the Pahrump Nugget. They are once again giving us the special rate of $15.49 including tax. Be sure to tell them you are with “MAY MADNESS.” They have both back-in and pull-through spaces. Their clubhouse holds 130 people and will be the site for the seminars up through Thursday. Other options include the Best Western Hotel and RV Park (775-727-5100), and Saddle West Hotel/Casino/RV Park (800-433-3987, www.saddlewest), both in Pahrump. It is VERY IMPORTANT to register early so we can plan appropriately. We need a good idea of how many will participate because we have to guarantee numbers for the hotel, banquet, etc. For additional information (including vendor space and special accommodations), contact Joe Donnelly at (505) 858-1966 (phone) or Donnellyj@msn.com (e-mail).

Wilson Manifold Contest Results!

Beginning March 1, TDR Members had the opportunity to post their credentials in order to do a product evaluation of a Wilson "Thrasher" Intake Manifold. The Wilson folks generously agreed to supply an intake manifold for the contest and the would-be TDR field test correspondents submitted their entries during the next sixty days.It is now time to announce the winners. That's right, winners (plural)! The folks at Wilson shared your enthusiasm for this contest (TDR members responded with many excellent entries), and they decided to ship out two of their Thrasher manifolds for our contest winners to evaluate. Let us extend a big "thank you" to the folks at Wilson for their sponsorship of this contest. And the winners of the Wilson Thrasher Intake Manifolds for their '03 - '07 5.9 engines:SSwords - Scott's entry represents the "average Joe" kind of owner. He has a '06 2500, Quad Cab, 4x4 that already has several engine modifications. We look forward to his evaluation to see how the Thrasher works with his existing PSM air box, drop in air filter, and Bully Dog performance module. The judges felt your evaluation would be very analytical and contain an excellent technical evaluation!HHuntitall - Casey's entry represents the owner that likes to talk and type. His colorful entry caught the judges' attention. The key to his winning entry, "I know the County Sheriff and most of his deputies very well." Casey's truck is a '03 3500, 4x4 that already has a TST PowerMax, new injector nozzles, a Holley fuel transfer pump, a SouthBend Clutch and perhaps a new turbocharger. The judges felt your evaluation would be very insightful and, shall we say, colorful!Congratulations, SSwords and HHuntitall! A member of the TDR staff will contact you to make shipping arrangements. Your assignment will be to provide a 30-day, 60-day, and 90-day report on the Wilson Thrasher manifold. The project should be completed and your final evaluation submitted 90 days after you receive the product.Again, our thanks go out to all of the TDR Membership for your participation. And thank you, Wilson Manufacturing, for your sponsorship of this project! This one has been so much fun that we'll be working with other vendors to offer their products for future "be a TDR writer" contests.Scott and Casey, get ready to send us your stories!Robert PattonEditor, Turbo Diesel Register

The Diesel Technology Forum is calling on diesel owners and users nationwide to power up their video cameras and diesel equipment to tell their diesel story. Videos that best put together a personal and creative story of how diesel works in the lives of individual diesel car owners, equipment operators, farmers, truckers, boaters, and other users will be eligible to win one of three $250 gift cards for fuel or merchandise. “Everyone has a story. At a time when there is so much discussion about new kinds of fuels and alternative technologies, we thought this would be a great time to hear from real Americans about the role that diesel plays in their lives – hence the contest “Diesel Works For Me”, said Allen Schaeffer, Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum, the group sponsoring the contest. Diesel fuel and engine technology are the backbone of our economy and still unmatched in terms of fuel economy, energy efficiency, reliability and performance. Diesel car and pick-up truck owners are especially encouraged to submit entries, especially those who may have bought a diesel instead of another technology. “There’s almost no end to the kinds of ways that diesel power works for people, so we’re looking forward to seeing many different kinds of stories,” said Schaeffer. “From firefighters and emergency responders, truckers, school bus drivers, boaters and equipment operators, even those who have experienced the benefits of a diesel-powered emergency generators, and maybe a few who have new diesel-fueled airplanes,” Schaeffer continued. Finalist videos will be posted on the Diesel Technology Forum website (www.dieselforum.org) and a winning video will be selected from each of three categories including personal transportation (light-duty cars, pick-up trucks, SUVs); heavy-duty highway vehicles; and off-road engines and equipment (farm, construction equipment, boats, airplanes, etc.). Complete contest rules including entry information is available at www.dieselforum.org/video. Videos should be sent to dieselworksforme@dieselforum.org by 5:00pm EDT June 5, 2009.

One of the nations’ most popular diesel drag races and sled pulls happens May 8th and 9th during the TS Outlaw Drag Race & Sled Pull. This event draws some of the most powerful diesel trucks that will go after cash prizes and trophies in each class. The fun begins May 8th with a huge open house at Beach Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Here spectators and diesel owners can see new diesel power products, and get a taste for the drag racing and sled pulls slated for the following day. On May 9th, the battle begins in ET brackets, 12.0 sec. Index, Pro-Street, Pro-Mod and Pro-Dragster classes. The Sled Pulls take place at the nearby Southern Kentucky Fairgrounds, where competitors use all their horsepower and torque to compete in Sled Pull Classes, a Street Class, Super Street, Pro Street and Modified Classes. In addition, the TS Outlaw Drag Race & Sled Pull features a vendor’s row and a Show-N-Shine competition. If you think you have what it takes to compete against some of the fastest street or race diesels in the world, or if you just have a love for everything diesel, make sure not to miss this popular event.
Our January 10, 2009 rally was a big success! We had 45 trucks participate. We owe a big thanks to the Turbo Diesel Register (TDR) for your support. Most participants drove Dodge/Cummins trucks, and they ranged from First Generation work trucks to Bremerton Dodge's Paul Shaffer's decked-out dually. We welcomed a local Ford group, and Bay Ford brought a brand new truck as well. For our free raffle the Turbo Diesel Register was our most generous contributor. The goodies and sample magazines were snapped up. We also owe a big thank you to the Bremerton Dodge, Grey Chevrolet, Bay Ford, and Bethell Automotive. The facility managers were so impressed with our turnout and the type of folks who attended that they have asked us to come back this summer. We will be planning another event soon. We will keep the Turbo Diesel Register members updated! Thank you TDR for all of your support!Rhonda Kelly aka Rhondasway on the TDR Website
