I took this picture last week coming back from Myrtle Beach SC, SR 76/301 just a few miles east of Florence SC. I have no idea how long this station has been closed, but tens of thousands of diesel-consuming RV’s headed to the beach and cars of all types begrudgingly pass by it just after a sign that says it’s now about $4.
I didn’t see a good spot in the fuel forum’s to post this; looks a bit too serious from my brief tour. But this must also be visible in other parts of the USA. How about having TDR member’s show us their signs and where they are. * * *
What a great idea for our next $100 Diesel Fuel Card giveaway. Post your best diesel fuel related sign or photograph by July 25, 2008. Include the location of the sign or where the photograph was made. It doesn't have to be a diesel fuel price sign, but it should be relevant.
But first, a note about its contents. I am sure you know the guy or gal who cannot complete the task because a small detail is missing. That has been the case with this Buyer's Guide. It was originally produced in 2002. We then updated it each year thereafter. Along the way, some of the photography was lost. Along the way Chrysler became DaimlerChrysler and now Chrysler LLC. Along the way, there have been technical service updates. Along the way we made corrections and waited. And waited. And waited.
Then we realized that it is 99.9% complete, and we decided to wait no longer. Here it is!
This 126-page .pdf TDR Buyer's Guide represents years of research. It contains a wealth of helpful information for new truck or new-to-diesel owners.
There was a debate among the staff and writers and members about who should have access to this file. In the end, we have opted to make the information available to everyone. We know that web-only viewers have come to realize that the internet is really not free. With this in mind, the TDR staff, writers and members would ask you to consider joining the Turbo Diesel Register. We have no doubt the information we can provide will prove valuable to you. Have you ever been sitting in traffic and see a vanity (license) tag that just makes you laugh? Or think? Or scratch your head? Well here's your chance.
Post your best vanity (license) tag idea. On June 15, we'll pick our favorite and mail the lucky (and creative, witty winner) a $100 gift certificate to Geno's Garage.
For example: - 4EN JUNK - might be a great vanity tag on a beat up, old Volvo.
- And here is one off of the Editor's old trucks (High Output Diesel).
For those of you with reallly good computer skills, you might even post a graphic of what your vanity tag would look like.
Keep in mind that we want to:
- Keep it clean (yep, appropriate for friends family) - Laugh (or at least get a good grin)
Hint: we'd love to see tags that have something to do with what we're here for: Dodge, Cummins, turbo diesel, diesel, trucks, etc. But, anything fun will do.
Join ATS Diesel for one of the largest truck shows in the country!
July 19 - 20, 2008 will feature the largest display of diesel power in the Rocky Mountain Region. Oil burners return to Thunder Mountain in Colorado to compete in sled pulling and drag racing. 2007's event was a great time, and we hear this year will be even better.
One of the crowd favorites, the Cummins Racing - ATS Diesel/Valvoline Premium Blue powered dragster of Scott and Dustin Bentz, will be on hand. This modified rail is propelled down the track by a Cummins ISB motor and was the first diesel dragster to make a 7 second quarter mile pass, doing so on BlueSun biodiesel!
All kinds of diesel truck owners will attend the event and weigh their skills against other bracket racers and sled pullers, as well as watch the action and check out the vendor midway. The truck pull features diesel pickup pilots pitting their skill and pulling power against a 40,000 lb. sled determined to make them stop on Bandimere's exclusive pull track!
Make sure to catch Colorado's premier truck event this July.
Scheid Diesel Motorsports' diesel dragster breaks another record. The fastest diesel dragster continues to be at the top. The car ran at Alabama International Dragway on May 18, 2008 with a time of 6.93 and a speed of 193 mph. The car, driven by Bo Layne, is now the first and only diesel powered vehicle in the 6's.
Scheid Diesel has designed the engine for the Spitzer built chassis, to achieve 200 mph in the quarter mile. This 300 inch rear engine dragster is powered by a Cummins 5.9L B-series diesel engine. The engine and drive train has been custom designed by Scheid Diesel. They are very close to exceeding the 200 mph barrier. See their Dragster on display at the DHRA Diesel Nationals in the Scheid Diesel booth.
Scheid Diesel is a diesel fuel injection shop that uses decades of experience to build performance diesel engines. All three Scheid Diesel locations; Effingham, IL; Terre Haute, IN and Lafayette, IN continue to offer excellent parts and service to a wide variety of diesel engine for on and off road use.
They are looking for a fun, action shot of a 2001 - 2006 Diesel Ram performing a thick, smoky, burn out. They would also like a SHORT story about the truck .
Picture must be available in high resolution.
The picture will appear in the new Holset "Dodge Performance" National ad for the Super 40 & Pro 52.
They would prefer a sanctioned Drag (DHRA or other) event. A safe environment is a must! No parking lots with cars or people in the area. Please, no "Babes" or "Dudes." This is about power, fun and wasting some tires.
They need the picture by 10:00 pm Central time today (July 8)! Yep, today!
The winner will receive a Holset Mag Light (2 cell AA in gift box), Holset t-shirt (4 shirts total, pick sizes S-XL), the new Holset sticker pack, and National recognition.
Contact Robin Patton at rpatton@ix.netcom.com to get a ftp link to upload your high-resolution photograph.
This fun packed Turbo Diesel weekend will include a Dyno Competition at GJ Diesel on Friday, June 20; Diesel Drag Racing at Yellowstone Dragway on Saturday, June 21; and Sled Pulls at Yellowstone Dragway on Sunday, June 22.
This is a family event with camping available at the track, and all tickets get you into the pit area to meet the drivers and see their vehicles.
Special attractions include Scott Bentz with the Valvoline Diesel Dragster, GJ Diesels 9-second Dirty Max, and Chad Riley with his 2008 undefeated Diesel Powered altered. Also this event should be host to one of the largest pro street classes in 2008.
Competitors can choose to compete in at all three events. Regardless of whether you are a complete stock truck or a highly modified truck, they have a class for you.

Chrysler Introduces New ‘Best-in-Industry’ Lifetime Powertrain Warranty on Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge Vehicles
The New Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty – the first from an OEM and the longest in the industry – is a statement of confidence in the reliability of Chrysler products.
Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components – engine, transmission and drive system.
Provides worry-free ownership for new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge owners.
Auburn Hills, Mich. - Chrysler today announced that the Company would extend its powertrain warranty from the 3-year/36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty to a new Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. The new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty applies to most new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles purchased from dealer inventory and delivered on or after July 26, 2007.
The Lifetime Powertrain Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components – engine, transmission and drive system. The new powertrain warranty is limited to the first registered owner or retail lessee. Customers should contact dealers for details on vehicle selection.
“This new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty is a statement of confidence to our customers to the reliability of their powertrain. It’s peace-of-mind reassurance for as long as they own the vehicle,” said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President – North America, Sales and Marketing, Service and Parts, Chrysler Group.
To continue warranty coverage, the owner must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer once every 5 years. This inspection will be performed at no charge. The inspection must be made within 60 days of each 5-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle.
Landry added, “The new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty underscores our focus on quality and customer satisfaction. It demonstrates our commitment to customers and the confidence we have in our ability to produce quality, reliable and durable vehicles. That’s why we put ‘lifetime’ on it.”
Customers may visit Chrysler.com, Jeep.com and Dodge.com for more information. A warranty promotion – print, radio, television and Internet – begins Friday, July 27.
PLEASE NOTE: *See dealer for a copy of limited warranty and details. Non-Transferable. Not available on SRT, Diesel vehicles, Sprinter, Ram Chassis Cab, and certain fleet vehicles.
