I’ve always been crazy about anything with an engine.

After years of pestering my father, he finally let me drive a car - at nine years of age. At 14 I taught myself to drive stick shifts and then how to ride motorcycles. Later, I also learned to fly and have had my pilot’s license for 22 years. Working on, riding, driving, restoring, photographing and writing about all these wonderful machines has always been my passion. I've been an auto vo-tech and smog test instructor, certified master technician, vehicle inspector, shop foreman, service manager, service director, and shop owner. Over the years I’ve owned about 35 bikes and 50 cars and trucks, a lot of which I wish I had never sold!

Bad Driving
By Ken Freund | Published  11/10/2006

Is bad driving becoming an epidemic, or is it just my imagination? It seems like every time I’m out on the road, I see senseless crashes for which there’s really no excuse. Yesterday, I nearly got hit when some moron drove right through a red light after I was in the intersection. No braking, just on the gas and right through. On the way back, two more clowns plowed into each other near my driveway.

Today I went into town to the bank and two more idiots ran into each other, both apparently not paying attention. They hit so hard it tore the rear axle out from under the pickup and flipped it over, sliding down the street on its roof. Thankfully, it wasn’t a Dodge, and nobody was seriously hurt.

These were all in clear, dry weather on good roads with moderate traffic. Most of the crashes appear to be caused by total ineptness. Here’s a picture of a Dodge pickup rolled over in a front yard in my town. It landed on their front porch; for no apparent reason. Am I the only one that’s noticed this epidemic?
