Not down shifting to 1st

Have a Blumenthal tranny and triple lok convertor for about a year. Now it is not down shifting to 1st unless I go into neutral and back to 1st. Blumenthal wants me to buy the complete TPS spring and housing for $260, not the TPS as it is new.

I have conflicting reports about the TPS being involved in down shifting to 1st. Could linkage ,TV cable cause this. Any other suggestions.
