heavy soot at idle

hey guys quick question for ya I noticed that my truck was throwing soot while at idle and i hadn't noticed it doing that before. is this normal? it was like 30 degrees. truck has 296,000 and i'm just being cautious i assume it is just the richness of 370's but wanted to check.
