zero fuel at all with new lift pump

i just got thru swapping a head gasket and a lift pump while i was at it.
anyways i had never had starting or leaking issues i figured i would change it while everything was out of the way and save the old one kinda thing. well now i can not get any fuel to the lift pump even. i pumped the heck out of that thing and when i finally got mad enough to take the sucker off again. there wasnt a drop of fuel in there.

things i am thinking are

somewhere in the starter removal a wire or something got pulled and broke seal on the fuel heater......

the housing cracked....

the fuel filter was empty, dont know if that matters or not.

like i said i never had starting or leaking issues prior to the new lift pump, so is there something i missed when i installed it? i am a little on the side of frustrated at this point. i would greatly appreciate any and all help with this. i so just want my truck back....
