Gear Vendors OD

I am about to install a GV OD that I bought used into my 97 4x4, 5 speed. I have read the manual (poor) that came with it. Installation seems straight forward. HOWEVER, the previous owner advised there is a ring/circle clip in the Dodge tranny that is tough to get out. Any advice/help?? Thanks
