Throttle linkage

Ok guys, Had to pull a trailer for my friend the other day. He wrecked a ford psd that was attempting to pull a horse to get AI'd...not that it would pull it any way

Friend and horse were fine. When I unhooked from the trailer, I got on it fooling around.
Lost all resistance in the pedal and immediately knew that the linkage had broke. Parts stores were closed, so I took the linkage up to the shop and tack welded it back together. It broke at the threads, however, was welded back to almost exactly the original position. It was a quick fix and got me home, but now I have to pop the throttle to get it started or else she'll just spin. Idle is about the same and no play in the linkage. I haven't had a chance to get a new linkage kit yet (wasn't really planning on it...the weld will hold fine). My goveror has been adjusted to allow 2800rpm (still stock springs). Any ideas?
