Thumbs up Plates in!

I installed my #10 plate and the 3000GSK kit last weekend. Everything went smoothly thanks to all the help and advice on this board. WOW! is an understatement in describing the power now. I set the plate just a few thousandths ahead of the stock location. I can see the two limiting factors now are EGT and the clutch. There is a stretch of highway nearby that has some very steep grades (not sure what percent) of a mile and more in length. I chose to do some tests here before I made the mods to compare to after. On one of the longest grades before the mods you couldn’t exceed 50 mph at the top empty. You really had to wind it up at the bottom to keep 50 at the top. Now I can be at 50 in the middle of the hill and punch it, and rocket up to 75 in a short time. EGT are 1200-1250 at that point and you had to back off to hold it there. There felt like there was lots left if it wasn’t for the high EGT.
Pulling a light 6000lb trailer would drop you down to between 35-40 at the top before mods. Now 55-58 seems to be the point where EGTs reach the 1250 mark. On more normal terrain it doesn’t feel like the trailers even there. I have yet to try it with a heavy (15000 or so) trailer.
I also noticed that with the trailer you could slip the clutch in 3rd or 4th gear if you were getting on it much, especially uphill. You could easily avoid that by driving a little more conservatively but I wanted to see what it would do.
I haven’t done the timing yet but plan to this weekend. I’m pretty sure its still stock at this point and was thinking of 15 or 16. Do you think this would make much difference in the EGT? If not I might back the plate up a tad although in my opinion you can control it now with your foot. You just have to pay attention!
Tim
