transfer case snap ring broke, is my brass synchro toast???

T-case grinds in 2wd upon aceleration, sounds like the snap ring. I just finished rebuilding it, like bolted it all up 30 minutes ago, took it for a quick drive, and had it grind just a few times lightly. Did I cook my brass synchro ring
