Thumbs down Tranny

Ok, so im driving home on the PA Turnpike doing about 60mph and about as soon I start to climp a hill unloaded I feel my tranny let go and it feels ike it is just freewheeling in drive like it had popped into nutral. Now another problem I had before that, when I would go to put the truck in drive and it would hesitate and then pop in, so I was in the mountains and I would try to put it in gear it would not go in I would have to almost get the truck level or get it to roll forward and would even have to rev it up a little to get into gear. Reverse works good, what could have gone wrong?

I am now going to take the tranny apart and put a heavy duty TC and clutches/bands and a shift kit.
