anyhow, with the chromies, you can run four breathers... one of the OEM valve covers and breather setups costs $100, right? and you can only breathe as much as the holes in the cyl head will allow. I bought four chromies w/ gromets for right ~$40... four times the holes in the head = four times the flow. roughly

Four chromies go in four valve covers how is this four times the holes in the head. If you run two of these covers you are breathing through the same amount of holes in the head as four chromies. The inlet on these breathers is much larger than four chromies. You also dont end up with the oily residue all over. Four chromies are alot cheaper, no arguments there and probably breath about the same. I guess this is a mod for people that care more about astetics, looking stock, and dont like the oily residue all over the engine.

Thats a big part of the beauty of these is that they will contain oily residue inside the engine where it came from. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has enough oil on their engine, already.

where do you think they're breathing from?
it's not like there's a big gaping open galley between the valve cover and the crank case... there are a couple pushrod holes... per valve cover. my chrome breathers have 5/8" hose fittings on them. I don't plan on having any residue on the engine.
trust me, I really like the OEM look, but I'm not spending over $200 on that... like I said, I've spent a LOT of money on minor asthetic stuff... black powdercoat wheels, building a 6" tailpipe out of aluminized tubing because I don't like chrome exhaust, etc. nothing most people would care about or even notice, and I really like how those Cummins valve covers look... but something in me can't justify it, and I can justify darn near anything to myself if I want! LOL
I agree

Actually, you are partly correct with some of this.
IF you utilize only one cover then, yes, you are correct in saying that you are only venting in 2 covers. However,no matter if you use these covers or your "chromies" you still are using the same holes inside to vent the extra pressure.Another added benefit is the ability to separate the oil and vapors and make sure the oil stays inside where it belongs and the oil vapors pass out, something your chromies will not do.I have even seen your patented "chromies" be pushed off motors completely in both gas and diesel applications.

Ok,you can use 4 chromies for relieving 4 times the pressure but your relieving the same pressure we are with the covers and from the same holes. You are sticking them into a factory Cummins valve cover correct?.So then why would your pressure be vented any different than ours?.On my 12v I use two of these cover setups and vent 4 cylinders as you do,except I have no issues with oil passing by the foam breathers thus no mess ever to clean up.yes,I will give you my expense at around $200 was more than your $40,but,as for efficency they are the same but with the way my truck is kept detailed I will say I am glad I opted for the covers.Nice clean install, removed my pressure issues and its nice to have nothing to clean up underneath the truck.........Andy
P.S...
If your wondering why I spent the cash and did these covers,,,,Ask My Pal Michael about my truck and the under-hood.He has seen it many times and I know he will vouch for how meticulous I am and I hate extra clean up work.

I guess I haven't looked under the valve covers recently enough... I was under the impression that there was no passage between the valve covers... just from each valve cover to the crank case... namely the pushrod holes. so the crank case can only vent through two of those holes per valve cover. that was my point.
I am not arguing that the Cummins covers/caps aren't far better quality, they are... but I'm not spending $200 on them

It was a missunderstanding, one of these valve covers is two covers cast into one both of the two cylinders feed into one breather. So if you run one of these covers you have two cylinders 4 holes feeding one breather. If you run two of these covers you have twice that 4 cylinder and 8 holes.

Here is another option that I used. $47 from cummins. hasn't leaked oil like the 24v guys. Seem to vent well and looks OK. Not as clean as the valve covers, but cheaper.

Yeah, I'll get that for you tomorrow. Box is still in my pickup. I ordered the hose that is supposed to be used with it, but opted for 5 ft. of heater hose instead. Should be about $40 for just the filler setup. I'll get it for you.

I just ordered the valve cover breathers from Cummins.
The valve cover was $88.54
The breather was $31.03
The breather seal was $5.83
Now I ordered 2 of each.
If it stops my little dribble of oil I get, It was money well spent.
