WIF sensor puked!!!!!

Just finished a round of golf yesterday, clubs loaded, started the truck to get the AC cooking. Truck started and died. What, not my truck! Usually can't hit the starter and release before it is started.
So maybe lost prime I said, altough did not believe it myself. After long cranking, finally started and ran rough for a few seconds. OK, lost prime, but why?
Smell of fuel, poped hood and fuel spraying everywhere from the filter area.
Shut it down, did a little cuss, silently I may add, and removed the wif sensor. IT HAD COME COMPLETELY APART INTERNALLY! I had just replaced it a month previous as we were going on vacation, and at filter change, the old wif sensor threads did not look good. Boy, am I glad this did not happen while we were in the mountains.
OK, I always carry a spare filter, but who carries a spare wif sensor? Not me. Got a buddy of mine to take me to a dealer and get another one. Soon back on the road.
In closing, I must say the lift pump is a pumping dude. With the leak, it still filled the filter and got me running.
Sorry about the long post, but I am a very meticilous mech, and all my vehicles are maintained properly, especially the Cummins. This was a real surprise and eye opener.
