Average 3500 4x4 5spd mpg?

Hey guys, what are the 12V 3500 4x4 5spd extended cab trucks getting for mileage? I used to have a 1995 2500 4x4 reg cab, and it was great. I remember one summer doing all highway driving I hit 23MPG with a load in the bed. My father has a 97 2500 4x4 extended cab 5spd, and only gets 16-18mpg, but he drives it like a car and I think he maybe has a fueling issue.

I'm getting tired of the payments on the new truck and am looking to go back to the 12Vers. I would like to pull a 14K gooseneck flatdeck, so I am looking at a dually, even though I'd prefer a 2500 single rear wheel. I just don't want to take too big of a hit on the mileage if I do go the dually route. 6 tires will be bad enough
