Transmission / Engine Modifications

I'm always thinking of new ways to modify my truck and since I'm near the limit or available power from my 'little' P7100, I have to find other ways to entertain myself.

One common problem a lot of us automatic owners face is nonlinear power delivery from our engines. My governor spring kit caused a huge power surge just off idle and my truck put out most all of its power by 1/2 throttle. I've spent days upon days, experimenting with the governor springs to get my pump's power delivery more linear. I want 1/4 full power at 1/4 throttle and 3/4 full power at 3/4 throttle and so on. The line pressure (that prevents clutch slippage) in our automatics is proportional to throttle angle, so in a perfect world, shouldn't our power delivery also be?

Any time I removed the off idle surge of power in my 160 hp pump, my miss and stumble associated with the 370 injectors came back.

I've given up on solving the problem through engine modifications, so now I will try to help the problem by TV lever modifications. I would like to fabricate another TV lever to replace the stock lever. With a shorter TV lever length, the increase in line pressure would be greater per throttle angle than our current system.

If I'm getting 80% power at 1/2 throttle than maybe I should try to get 80% of my line pressure increase at 1/2 throttle.

The obvious problem with this is that I would further limit my current total throttle travel. I would like to setup a stiff tension spring in line with my TV cable that would allow my throttle angle to travel past the limit of the transmission.

I also need an adjustable stop for the TV lever to attain proper WOT shift points.

It seems this would allow much more adjustability than the current crude TV lever adjustment.

Has anyone experimented with different TV levers? Bill? Anyone?

Thanks for listening. Sometimes, I think I have too much time on my hands.

-Chris
