Piers cam

Greetings 12 valvers!!

Thought I'd share a little info on Piers cam. I put a PDR cam in my truck when the Piers ported head went on about a month ago. Soon after that, on went the PDR hx-40. My point is, all the changes in the truck are not just from the cam alone. I did some comparisons with the hx-35/16 before I put the 40 on.
The spool up time with the hx-35/16 before/after the cam and head installation was a VERY dramatic difference. The bottom end response was like having a 12cm housing again. The cruise egt's dropped 200+ degrees, idle egt dropped 50 degrees and the idle cool down time to 300 degrees or less is quite a bit faster. Top end egt's are still up there, but not till the top of third gear and not until 3300+ rpm in fourth. This is all with the hx35/16.
Of course, I HAD to have a PDRhx-40/16, just to help finance Piers trip to Muncie. The 40 made a BIG change in the seat of the pants feel. There is some lag to about 1500rpm, 10 pounds boost to 1700, then the boost guage climbs as fast as the tach, up to 38-40 pounds. There is one small puff of black smoke when you hit it, then the smoke turns to gray, by 3000-3200 there is NO smoke in the mirrors! No smoke must mean I'm actually burning the fuel from the #10 plate and 370 injectors. The egt's will hit 1500 at the end of third(3600) and about 3300+ in fourth. Kind of a novelty to be able to USE the power and not back off so soon.
I've checked the mileage on two tanks of fuel , so far a little more than two mpg better than before. This is with plenty of full throttle runs. If driven right(whatever that is), I would estimate closer to three mpg better, which would be 21+ mpg in everyday driving, not expressway only.
Speaking of full throttle runs, I went to Black Mountain Diesel's grand opening today. Met some great folks, saw some awsome trucks (all Dodge!) and had a good afternoon. You know what happens when Cummins owners get together, lotsa black smoke and plenty of rubber left on the road.

See y'all at the dyno at Scheid's in August.
