A little story about a bad miss at idle and how I fixed it.
Just out of the blue my truck started idling really rough with low RPM, after researching in great detail, here is what I did.
1. Ran two complete tanks of fuel out with triple additive. NO EFFECT
2. Checked my overflow valve spring, it should be .550, It was .44 so I stretched it. No difference
3. Installed a fuel pressure gauge. Pressure was 28 lbs at idle.
NO IM REALLY SCRATCHING MY HEAD.
4. Cracked open my lines at the injectors one at a time while idling, AH HAA,, found the number 3 cylinder was dead.
5. To confirm that it was not the injector I switched the #1 and #3 injectors, the #3 stayed dead.
6. I pulled my valve cover off on #3 and checked gap. It was good.
7. Called Al at Piers, he sold me a slightly tweaked rebuilt injector pump and shipped it to FL. “3300 rpm springs, 191d valves, #4 plate, calibrated, etc.”
8. My new friend/mechanic Todd Struck in Bushnell, FL did the install yesterday and that fixed it. I had him do the KDP at the same time.
If anyone in FL ever needs any work done on any vehicle, especially your Dodge Diesel, I HIGHLY recommend Todd. (352) 568-7591.
BTW. That new pump from Piers Rocks!!!!
Now I need to figure out how to calm down my cruise control, it will give you whiplash at 70 when you engage it.
Many thanks to all that helped.
