trans lipseal

my 95 4x4 auto apparently needs the dreaded trans lipseal replacement. I tried doing a search on lipseals, but did not find the info needed. Does anyone have any insight on whats involved with doing this repair? Are we talking dropping the trans or can this be done while in the truck? any info is greatly appreciated.
