Fuel filter or timing

When I start the truck cold (after sitting at least 4 hours) I get a little bluish smoke at idle and sometimes a little stumble upon the initial acceleration. I have been thinking the fuel filter needs changed (only 8000 miles on it), but have never had the timing done and wondered if maybe it had slipped some.
143,000 miles on the truck.
