Looooong turbo cool down time????
It seems that I need to idle my truck for a lot longer time to cool down the turbo than do friends who have '03 CTD and '03 ford (notice small letter f). I love my other fords but wouldn't trade my CTD for two new powerstrokes or ten duramax's. Anyway, sometime back I lost my turbo while on vacation. I made it home from about 300 miles out.
A friend (works in a turbo shop) tried to help with a rebuild. He broke a steel ring inside the turbo and it started smokin' something terrible. Lots of evidents of oil down though the turbo and exhaust system. I had a professional shop rebuild it again. My question is could the oil running down though the exhaust system cause a restriction that would cause this slow cool down time. I'm talking normal driving three to five minutes. I don't have the catalic converter on it anymore, just stock exhaust and muffler.
