Do I need studs?

Just bought a new (to me) head and am having Scheid o-ring it (and resurface it if necessary). Plan on porting myself as I have experience and access to a flow bench.

Anyways, my understanding is that bolts vs studs have about the same/similar holding force, although torquing is more precise with the studs. I DO NOT want to take the engine out of the truck (no 14mm studs). Thoughts?

At about the same time, I am planning on doing an ATS convertor, Killer B2 turbo, and get my pump upped to about 450cc's, and going to 5x.014-.018 injectors. Scheid thinks I will probably break my input shaft shortly afterward...

What is your advice oh wise learned ones? This is a "daily driven" truck that I want to "screw around" pull with - that means I'm not going to build it for a class, nor fool myself into thinking I will be at all competitive at any big pulls. What do you think I can do with this setup & what do I NEED to have I really don't have $2-3K to buy a full trans and would rather not spend $400 on a stud kit that may make very little difference...

I am at a point where I NEED to buy a convertor and a larger turbo no matter what, and my pump doesn't seem to run real smooth sometimes (idles a tad rough sometimes and seems to almost miss/pop above 3200 RPM - which it has always done), so it needs to go out for some TLC too.

I don't mind breaking stuff on occasion - but I HATE buying/fixing stuff more than once. I need your help o mighty blowers of the smoke!
