CJ,

Ok, here is the University work I'd mentioned.

It's actually pointed to from a thread here in TDR:

TDR Thread on DSE

In response #48, JGann points to a great resource on biodiesel and WVO/SVO at infopop.cc. That article is:

Biodiesel Forum article on DSE

That article has a 'read this first' link:

Facts about Diesel Secret...

Don't alarmed by their attitude. I refer to it because it has a link to the University of Idaho's paper (a MS Word document) that was a 'literature search' - meaning they did the legwork finding all that stuff - on using raw vegetable oils either straigt or mixed with #2 diesel, and also looking at indirect and direct injection engines and how the fuels performed.

The University's paper is found at:

University of Idaho article on raw oils in diesel engines

About half way down is a link to the word document itself:

Using Unmodified Vegetable Oils as a Diesel Fuel Extender – A Literature Review

Lastly, here's another nice collection of information:

Straight Vegetable Oil As Diesel Fuel

Personally, I try and learn from folks taking an opposing view. I might interpret their information differently, but it is often a good way to get educated on a matter. In this case, I think there is 'smoke' -- and, so, the real issue is whether or not DSE addresses the potential problems with using raw vegetable oils as fuel in our direct injected Cummins.

No panic, just a healthy concern, and therefore that 'trust but verify' attitude.

I don't see where you live - if we knew, perhaps someone nearby would volunteer to help you perform a periodic check on the injectors. If not, I'd consider contributing to a 'pool' to help pay to have it done.

What do you think?

Thanks and good luck!

Mark
