What usually gets hurt when a 5.9L runs away

What are the common things that happen to a 5.9 that runs away?

I just bought a 95 with a engine that ran away because a blown turbo had dumped a ton of oil into the intercooler, unbeknownst to the person that put the replacement turbo on.
When they fired the truck back up the RPM's kept climbing until after awhile it just slowed itself down and died..
Nothing is on the outside of the block and the truck didn't leak any oil.

Any ideas?
