Turbo Cool Down Question

Guys,
My new turbo comes w/instructions to never shut down above 300°

I have the probe pre turbo and don't see 300°

Gots the PDR 35 w/40 wheel and 16cm housing, POD's etc. etc. etc. yadda yadda

The wife thinks I'm nuts and, well, when I pull the rig in at the parents or in-laws they wanna know why I let the engine idle for such a long time. And no I'm not turning the fuel down

Would porting really help that much? Say the intake horn and maybe the cyl. head too????

Oh ya.......my rig smokes at idle......... like a Norfolk & Western "J" Class locomotive
