Fuel shut off solenoid

My truck wouldn't shut down with the key today when I got home from the car wash. Did some searching in the archives, and removed the shut off solenoid, cleaned it (no metal shavings), and replaced it. Still doesn't work. I did notice that the rubber tip on it was chewed up. There was one post in the archives about this, but no resolution. Does anyone know if I can get just that rubber tip? Also is there anyway to test that the solenoid is actually trying to engage? I hear they're kind of expensive.
