2wd to 4wd conversion question

I'm in the middle of converting my 89 CTD crewcab from 2wd to 4wd. I've got the springs in, dana 60 in and am getting all the new bearings and brakes on the 60. I'm going to be pulling the 727 auto and installing a 2wd Getrag and a divorced 205. The trans hump seems quite a bit narrower on the 2wd body. I'm thinking about running the 205 cable operated so I can center mount the 4wd shifter and not modify the body. I've seen some cable set-ups for extreme off-road and am wondering if that's a better option. Thanks for your thoughts!
