Tranny Detents

Have any of you guys had this problem losing the detents between R and N and also between N and D on your auto. Am i out of adjustment or linkages or is it in the tranny housing where that little ball with the spring sits on the selector linkage , kinda freaking me out don't want to miss a gear and F?*&^ up the tranny
