Drag race in 4X4??

I've heard of the 2nd gen guys drag racing in 4x4 and not toasting their transfercase. And I know they have a different kind of case. But could the 205 case take the stress of doing that?
Not that I wish to try. Whenever I ran my truck I just lived with the tire spin and ran 2wd.
Just curious to know if anyone has ever done it and what did it do.
