Straight pipe

Is it true that putting a straight pipe on your truck you will need to make a bigger air intake? Would this result in losing raw fuel out of the exhaust?
would fleetguard be the best air filter to use if I wantd to go with an bigger air box? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks, Alex
