Which type of pump SHOULD be in a 1992

The engine in my 92 has a vp44 pump (round output, not the inline pump) is this right or has there been some modification to the engine. From as far as I can tell (from reading countless threads on TDR) it should be the inline P7100. I have just bought this pickup and was checking it out. New to the CTD just hopped over the fence from the Fix or repair daily 6.9 and not looking back.
