Boost gauge questions

I drilled a hole in the throttle bracket and put my boost gauge in the manifold above that area, removed a pipe plug and put the fitting in. I see some turbos with a gauge tap right on them. Would boost pressure readings be different closer to the turbo or on the outlet flange compared to at the intake manifold etc?
