rebuild by Bryan Banghart (dzlpwr)

I emailed Bryan about 2mo ago when he had his new Ve for sale and he had already sold it, though he'd rebuild mine. We worked out a deal for some parts and cash, and I sent the pump off to him. I asked him to set it up for 275-300hp. I had him replace all the springs, and install a 366 gov spring. He also did the throttle shaft update, and installed a new plug in the center of the head. I had him bench time to to 1.55mm. Got it back Thursday morning and had it on Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately, it was raining when I got done installing it, and I couldnt test its full potential . I did get to test it out yesterday when I went down to Sikeston for some parts for the g/f's shop, and here are my initial impressions:

EGTs are down at cruise and moderate (relatively- it is putting out 160mm at full throttle) aceleration. Up a hill on I55 (~mile 81-82), I maxed my EGT at 800 at a steady 70mph. This is the 92 in my signature, and it has a curb weight of 7200#. I am back to where I should be at cruise in terms of EGT .

Performance is awesome- punch it halfway at 40mph in 4th and the boost gauge jumps to the high 20s, and climbs quickly to 32 or so before I back out of it, or shift to the next gear (sorry, no tach). I have yet to do a full throttle run due to concerns for my stock turbo and clutch. Pedal is very sensitive- takes about 1/4-1/2in pedal travel to keep my speed on interstate- similar to bobtailing a BCIII. I can get the EGT into the red zone, but I also have a stock H1C, so that is expected. Upgrades are in my not-so-near future- I have to save what I can for shoeing shcool in March or May.

I will report back on MPGs after the weekend. I am expecting the 19-21hwy range in the hills of Bollinger and Wayne counties.

Daniel
