Broke my Brake Black Box

I was wondering if somebody can tell me what exactly the black box under the drivers side hood hinge is...there is a 4 or 5 wire plug running into it and a vacuum line from the brake booster...I'm kinda figuring that it is some sort of vacuum sensor because since I accidentally broke the fitting off that comes from the brake booster my brake light is staying on...I've tried to seal the fitting with silicone but not a thing changed...the brakes still feel fine, can I just plug the vacuum line and disconnect the plug to keep the brake light off? Thanx to all....
