46RH Intermediate/Output Shafts - Strength?
Hi, guys,
Looking for a little advice on my first gen project. I bought a built 46RH trans for it awhile back to replace the stocker. It's got all the normal internal goodies, except billet shafts. At the time, I was only planning on going to the 500-550rwhp range, so I didn't think I'd need billet shafts.
I'm considering rebuilding the motor and going to a big twin setup now, and I was curious how much that trans should hold, if I drop a billet input and flexplate on it before installation? I'm sure the stock intermediate and stock output will be the weak links.
I do have a few things helping me. The truck is a light regular cab longbed (and I could go to fiberglass frontend and bedsides to help more). No lockup, so no locked-locked shifts. Loose converter, and my twins wouldn't start spooling until 24-2500 anyway, so I'd stay away from the low torque peak that busts a lot of trannies. I don't mind keeping it to sub-10psi launches if it will help the trans live with all the power, either.
What do you think? How much power should it hold? Would I be better off digging back into it now and replacing the intermediate with a billet shaft?
Chris
