Power Steering Box seals

I just blew the seal under the cap of my steering box. It started to leak under the top cover of the box where you adjust the tightness of the box a couple of weeks ago and then the leak got rapidly worse. I ran out of fluid and even after replacing the fluid I have no power assist. I have run the box lock to lock (really fun with the CTD, 285's and no assist) to purge the air and still have no power assist.
The box was rebuilt by PSC last spring and they offered to reseal it at no charge. I am having them look at the pump as well.

??? Has anyone lost a PS pump by letting it run out of fluid and then driving it 2 miles on empty? I hate to admit that I have done it lots of times and never had it eat the pump.

?? What would cause the PS box to leak where the top plate (the billet one on the PSC box) mounts to the rest of the casting?

Other info. I had PSC rebuild a box that had been in an accident that broke the pitman arm off at the steering box so it has seen stress in its day. I also had them plumb the box for ram assist, but had not installed the ram yet. I was told that the box would work fine with those ports just covered.

Thx for any ideas or experiences with this one. I do not have a good feel for how those boxes are plumbed.
