Oil Temp Probe

Where is the best spot to mount the oil temp sensor? I know it is the pan that is the best, but I really hate to remove it for welding and drilling. Is there anywhere else that would work as well?

Also, as I am running a Amsoil bypass filter setup, would it be OK to install the sensor in the free port of the bypass filter housing, or will the three feet of hose already have cooled the oil enough to fudge my readings?
