Well, My 1992 D250 was afflicted by the dreaded throttle position sensor failure a couple of months ago. I did not worry about fixing it until a couple of weeks ago, both due to it being a somewhat intermittent problem and also that I had no plans to be going very far.
A friend of mine had bought a new TPS for his 1996 but it did not cure his shifting problem but he decided to leave the new one on anyhow. He told me to see if it would work on mine and if it did we would make a deal on it. This is my first experience with the TPS other than adjusting it a couple of years ago. They looked exactly the same from the top, but when I removed mine to compare them I immediately noticed that they operate in the opposite direction from each other.
I have been buying items off of Ebay for about a year or so but had never seen a TPS for our trucks there. Believe it or not, when I checked that same day I found an ad that offered a new, never installed TPS that the guy thought was for a CTD Dodge. He gave a part number and when I checked it out it was the right one for a first generation.
I made the initial bid of $9.99 and then just sat back for a few days until the auction had run its course. About 15 minutes before closing the bid was at about $48.00. I waited until one minute before the close and made a bid. I got the TPS for $51.01 plus $5.00 for shipping. Now you see why I think I did good.
The TPS arrived a few days later and it was new just as advertised. I installed it and it cured the problem just fine.
It sure feels good to be on the winning side every once in a while!
