Oil Pressure Question

I was wondering what is the common oil pressure in the CPL 804 engines (pre intercooled, those built before Jan.1991) My 1989 idles at 27-28 PSI but at highway cruising approx. 1900 RPM. it only runs in the low 40-41 PSI. I would think if the bottom was getting tired the low idle oil pressure would also be low. I was beginning to be suspect of the relief valve. Looking for some insight here. Thanks John.
