Unhappy Broken Power Adjustment Screw??

Need some help fellers..today on Moparcowboy's 75' PW with the 93' Cummins engine, we tryed turning the power adjustment screw clockwise for more power. Got the little steel collar off fine and started turning the jambnut...it turned about 1 1/4 turns fine then the SCREW SEEMED TO BRAKE OFF..we couldn't get it back in and thread it because of a small "Lip" on the back of the screw...i've never heard of this happenning, can anybody shed some light on this problem?
