Any experience welding an "open diff"??

Hi guys,

Since I don't have the $$$'s to get an LSD, I have been toying with the idea of having my diff welded up.
What's the thoughts' on this??
Any issues to consider in terms of practicality, reliability, or whatever????
If I do this, do I end up with what is basically a poor mans Detroit Locker?
