Turbo help please!

I have a 92 d250, I shouldn't have bought this truck. I sold my mint 2001 and bought my 1st gen because I love old school. The first thing I ended up having to do was rebuild my rear-end, $2500 later I realized I would never sell this truck.
There has been some mods but I really don't know what has been done. This truck does 8 second 60's so it must have a tweeked pump and injectors. I was told it has an upgraded turbo but I looked and it is an HX-1 I don't know how to tell what size of housing is on it.
I bought all the gauges and have not installed them yet because I want to up-grade the turbo, my brother just bought a pdr hx-40 for his 2002 and will give me his stock waste-gated hx-35, is this a good up-grade for my truck, my goal it to get 400 rwhp. Please tell me what you think
