breather tube questions

I have relocated my breather tube down the frame, today I noticed for about 5 min at idle a loud puff puff coming from the breather hose louder than normal and then after driving and stopping again it was back to normal letting out a slight constant steam. could the puff puff be caused from accumilation in the hose and it blew out. I get alittle oil now and again nothing major. on this note a member awhile back built a breather filter in his oil fill cap to let out pressure wondering if others have done this. how well it works and if I did do this would I be able to plug off the original breather hose without problems.
