help with friends 99

well hopefully I can get some input on helping a friend he has a 99 dually auto. with 200k miles changed fuel filter, oil new bhaf. did a air test no boost leak. no codes according to my smarty. he has no gauges which im pushing him to get. the problem is I believe centered around the tranny. I know it needs flushed and probley the bands adjusted. I know it hunts for gears. the worst is hitting about 50mph on a slight hill it will shudder like it wont down shift. is this the band adjustment or possible bad tq converter. what are signs of bad tq-converter. he doesnt blow any excessive smoke he doesnt have any performance add-ons. also seems the truck has almost a dead peddle takes for ever to get response at times with the peddle. if a apps is going would it throw codes. also the apps reset is it the same process for all 98.5 to 02. well maybe you all can get me some tips to check out.
thanks.
