AFC star wheel...drawbacks?

Hello,
Just for fun I tried adjusting the star wheel in my AFC. Turned it about 1.5 turns toward engine (until it stopped), big accel difference but lots of smoke. Backed it off another 1/2 turn, still a noticeable throttle response difference but less smoke. Are there any drawbacks to bumping up the star wheel like this? Is the little bit of extra smoke OK, or am I just wasting fuel? I don't want to lose my fuel mileage, which is from what I understand not as good as it should be in the first place. Pyro temps are up slightly but not much, and since it only takes 2 minutes to adjust I can always bump it back down for towing. Any other drawbacks I'm missing? If it matters I have a TST power kit.
Thanks,
Darel
