Low Beams Working Intermittently

My low beams have been working intermittently since yesterday. Doing a forum search I see that it is probably the multifunction switch (ie. high /low switch). I also see a lot of posts of guys adding a Summit Racing harness (Part # SUM-890030) so as to add a relay and take the current load off of the headlight switch. My question is: Is this harness also needed on a 2002?. Reading my service manual on Lamps/Lighting it describes a headlamp relay in the Power Distribution Center leading me to believe that this harness is not needed for my 2002.
