Traction Bars

My buddy has a 2002 CTD ext cab shortbed 4x4. He wants a set of traction bars and is having a hard time getting any good info. I told him I would come here and see what you guyz are doing for the traction bars. If you build your own are there any tricks or angles that you need to follow? Thanks any and all info is greatly appreciated!! Jim
