P1690 code

As I was driving home tonight the engine light came on. At the same time, my tachometer stopped working for a few seconds. Could this be a possibly be the cam sensor? I know it states possible VP-44 malfunction, but with the tach stopping if it would be the CS? I didn't notice any difference in the way it ran after that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
