Cat for a bird?
We went to work on the cat that was living a dirty life under the truck. I put some Kroil on its 154,000 mile old joints...slid right off. Replaced with a 52" long 3" swadged to fit over the 3" downpipe on one end and a 4" adapter on the other to fit the muffler. This length is overall. IMHO there is VERY little difference if any in the way of performance. The only obvious differences are the smell is less and "better" and at an idle the tailpipe has a chirping sound like a hyperactive Canary. Slightly deeper tone at the tailpipe.
Would I recommend doing it....yes as the smell change makes it worth it!
This is a stock '95.
