Fuel pres. gauge sender. No teflon tape?

Yep, The instructions say not to use teflon tape on fuel sender treads. I know that it's npt threads, but won't this leak? What if I use gas resistant pipe dope? Same thing? I'm assuming this has something to do w/ the conductivity of teflon?
